Start with your state, then your coverage start date

Shopping for 2027 individual or family health insurance? Open Enrollment takes place mainly in the fall of 2026, and some marketplaces continue accepting enrollments in January 2027. The final deadline is not necessarily the deadline for coverage to begin January 1.

Current guidance lists November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027 for Pennie in Pennsylvania and HealthCare.gov, used in Florida and Delaware. New Jersey’s window runs through January 31.

Dates in this guide were checked October 17, 2026. Earlier announcements about shorter 2027 enrollment windows remain online. Use the current marketplace guidance linked below and confirm deadlines before acting; extensions or further changes can occur.

Pennsylvania: Pennie marketplace dates

Pennsylvania residents choosing marketplace coverage use Pennie, the state’s official health insurance marketplace. Current Pennie consumer guidance lists November 1 through January 15. For 2027 coverage, that means November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027.

Enroll by December 15, 2026 for coverage beginning January 1, 2027. Selections made December 16 through January 15 generally begin February 1. Check your enrollment confirmation and pay any required first premium on time.

Pennie’s October 6, 2026 announcement confirms the November 1 opening and December 15 cutoff for New Year’s Day coverage. This is more recent than materials describing an October 15 opening. Sonon Insurance provides Pennie-certified broker assistance.

New Jersey: a later final deadline through Get Covered NJ

Get Covered New Jersey has confirmed its 2027 enrollment window as November 1, 2026 through January 31, 2027. To start coverage January 1, enroll by December 31, 2026. January enrollments generally begin February 1.

The extra time is useful, but waiting until January can leave you without January coverage. Review your renewal and enrollment instructions early. Sonon Insurance provides certified broker assistance for Get Covered NJ.

Florida and Delaware: use the federal marketplace calendar

Florida and Delaware residents choosing marketplace coverage use HealthCare.gov. Its current 2027 consumer guidance lists November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027. Enroll by December 15, 2026 for January 1 coverage; enroll December 16 through January 15 for February 1 coverage.

Delaware’s Choose Health Delaware program helps connect residents to coverage, while enrollment takes place through the federal marketplace. Sonon Insurance provides federal marketplace-certified broker assistance for the available plans it offers in Florida and Delaware.

You can also enroll directly through Sonon Insurance

You can also enroll through Sonon Insurance directly with participating carriers outside Pennie and Get Covered NJ, where available.

Off-marketplace plans do not qualify for marketplace financial assistance. If you may be eligible for savings, compare enrollment through your state’s marketplace first.

ACA-compliant individual and family plans purchased directly generally require Open Enrollment or a qualifying Special Enrollment Period. Confirm the carrier’s deadlines and coverage start date. We can help you compare the available marketplace and direct options around your doctors, prescriptions, and budget.

Before you choose or renew a plan

Keep a list of doctors, specialists, preferred hospitals, prescriptions, and pharmacies beside you. Verify each provider against the exact 2027 plan and network. Check drug-list status, tiers, deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and coverage restrictions. A familiar carrier name does not guarantee the same benefits or network next year.

Estimate household income for 2027 and review your marketplace eligibility notice for financial help. Update changes promptly. Compare the annual premium together with likely care costs and the plan’s out-of-pocket limit.

Finally, review your enrollment confirmation and pay any required first premium by the insurer’s deadline. Selecting a plan alone does not activate coverage.

What if you miss Open Enrollment?

A qualifying event, such as losing eligible health coverage, getting married, having a baby, or certain moves, may allow a Special Enrollment Period. Deadlines and evidence requirements depend on the event and marketplace. Contact the marketplace or your broker promptly; do not assume an event qualifies automatically. Medicaid and CHIP applications are available year round.

These ACA enrollment dates are separate from Medicare’s fall Annual Enrollment Period. Employer coverage also follows the employer’s own schedule.
